Better Late Than Never...

...For the rest of our trip to Santa Barbara. Where was I? Oh yeah, exploring the beach while David was listening to other scientists talk about other kinds of materials (yawn!).

A 15 minute walk from campus, into Goleta, brings you here. Now, seriously, who gets any work done here when you are so close to this? There is no way this can be a 4-year institution...more like 5 or 6.

Believe it or not, this place is serious about it's physical sciences with a serious marine biology lab and hefty materials and physics departments. They even have an institute for theoretical physics and, yep, it's right on the beach.
How can you possibly be expected to work under these conditions?
This is the rather hazy view from the beach looking back at those suckers who were conned into working on this beautiful sunny day!

When they finally let the monkeys out of their cages, we headed north into wine country for a fabulous meal at the Gainey Vineyard in the San Ynez Valley.

The food, company and scenery were all pretty spectacular. So much so, I was persuaded to come home with a bottle or two to share later.

So far the only down side to living here, that I see is this
Oh yeah, and the proximity to massive wildfires. Blurg.
