The Ocean

Most of you know I have a hate-hate relationship with the ocean. I like the mountains. It is cool, there is stuff to do beyond laying on the beach or fighting for your life while swimming with things that may try to drown or eat you. I have probably gone to the ocean 10 times in my life: once to California long ago, then to the Maryland coast a few times in graduate school with my extended family, and finally a few times to Hilton Head with Ali's family. To me the ocean represents boredom, heat, sand, and death by water.

But the Oregon coast changed that. It is beautiful, and the water is so cold that you don't even want to go in. Fantastic! We spent a week at Oceanside, Oregon with the my family. We had a cute little 3 bedroom condo overlooking the ocean. It had a great window seat which was perfect to play with the little guy while looking out at the ocean.

Playing with Connor in the window seat overlooking the ocean.

Our week consisted of watching a lot of World Cup Soccer (including the exciting victory of the US over Algeria), cooking a lot of yummy foods, relaxing (as we could pawn off Connor on an eager Grandma), walks on the beach, flying kites, and games. The weather was rather cold (highs in the 60s) which suited us after our very hot June in ABQ.

Activities of the week

As always, vacation went way too quickly. But it was a really relaxing trip, and hopefully it will become a family tradition. Below are two of my favorite photos representing how beautiful this place is. My kind of beach vacation.
