In and around Portland

We had a good time while we were in Portland. It is a great city, made better by my brother's being there. When we arrived in Portland, everyone was bemoaning the weather, but by the time we left a week later it looked like summer had arrived. We had 2 beautiful, warm and sunny, days there. This reminded me of the time we were in Glasgow, Scotland and we had 2 days of uncharacteristically warm, sunny weather. In both cases (Portland & Scotland), the sunny weather brought all the extremely pale people out of hiding and into the sun. People were strewn across the grass soaking up the seldom seen rays of sun, out walking and biking, and generally enjoying the weather.

We took the opportunity to introduce Connor to a local park and rose garden near Ian and Meg's house. While Ali tried to get him excited about the water, Connor was fascinated by the ecstatic kids running screaming through the various water fountains. Maybe next year, buddy.

Another morning we went with Meg to watch a live World Cup match from a local bar. The game was a little boring actually, but it was fun to be in that atmosphere - lots of Brazil fans singing and chanting. We stopped on the way in to pick up some Voodoo doughnuts which we ate with coffee while watching the match.

Left: poor Connor, no TV for you, right: voodoo donuts.

So we look forward to another trip to visit Ian and Meg!
