Flamingo Dancing

Right next door to our favorite brunch location here in ABQ (the Gold Street Cafe with the absolutely sublime southwest eggs benedict) is probably Connor's favorite place in the world.  A few doors down is the National Institute of Flamenco.  Connor has been drawn like a moth to a flame with the movement and the loud clunking and clapping of happy dancers.  Either before or after breakfast, our habit is to stay and watch the kids classes in session on Saturday mornings.

He is mesmerized.  This kid, a blur of constant motion for most of the time, will stand slack jawed and watch the classes for easily 30 minutes straight.  At that point is when he make a break for it and tries to go out on the dance floor.

The earliest the kids can go in there is 3 years, so we will probably enroll him in January.  Until then, our favorite activity is "Flamingo" dancing as he calls it.  When we do this, we put on boisterous flamenco music, dress up in fancy dresses, and put on "clunky shoes".  (This new hobby ties in nicely with his old hobby of wearing around mom's high heels).  We then proceed to dance around in the front room.  Absolutely hilarious, and something that I am sure will mortify Connor some day!

Strike a pose with his castanets.
