Bosque del Apache

Today we headed down to Bosque del Apache (BDA) wildlife reserve with the grandparents to take a look at the wintering birds. We visited here earlier in the season, but arrived just before the bulk of the birds did. (For details on our previous adventure, plus a little info on the BDA check it here.) This place apparently attracts a lot of out of country visitors, as we ran into some South African and Dutch visitors while in the visitor center. (My dad was very pleased).

It was really fun. Basically you drive around very slowly and look for birds. It reminded me of going on safari in Kruger Park - drive and constantly look around. The highlights of the trip included seeing two bald eagles, a red tailed hawk, the sandhill cranes, and a bazillion snow geese floating on a pond.

Overall, a really fun day. Connor did great - we left just before his first nap, and he fell asleep for his second nap all the way home. He really enjoyed having Mom and Granny in the back seat all day and he was super talkative and played in his car seat all afternoon. Before heading back to ABQ, we went to the original Owl Cafe for their world famous green chile cheese burger. Delicious.
