When you can't go to Balloon Fiesta....

...Balloon Fiesta comes to you. Well, a sick baby prevented our return to the Mass Ascension this weekend. We were hoping to bike up again and enjoy the event, but that was not to be. But to our surprise this morning, we could hear the very loud sounds of balloons piloting their way through our neighborhood. Stepping out into the front yard we could see about 10 balloons floating our way.

They all took off from BF park this morning, and around 8:30 they had drifted the 8 miles down to our neck of the woods. It is very unusual for this to happen, especially since we don't have a lot of wide open city parks that don't have significant tree cover, and more importantly only another 1 mile or so south and you are on the Air Force base. I am sure that flying into the airspace of the base and the airport would be greatly frowned upon (scramble the F16s we got a balloon!). So our theory is that all the other prime landing spots throughout the city were full and these guys were the unlucky or daring ones.

Pretty cool! If we weren't dealing with Clingy McStinkypants all morning, we would have followed all the chase cars and see where and how they landed. But this was a highlight of the morning regardless, especially since we felt we missed out this weekend. So long Balloon Fiesta 2010, we will see you when you arrive next year!

You guys have the best front porch.

A scientist, a student, and a toddler try to make their way through the tumult of everyday life. What will happen to them next? Stay tuned...
