It's that time of year, spring planting and landscaping. Friday morning a dump truck helpfully deposited 6 tons of gravel onto the driveway. The weekend project was to tackle the side yard that over the last month has turned into a jungle of out of control weeds. I actually cleared it at the end of last season and put down yard fabric, but the early rains woke the weeds up before we knew it and they staged their attempted revolt. It was brutally suppressed by lots of pulling, shovels, and pick axes. Now the remains of their insolence is under 3" of gravel. Rebellion suppressed.
We hope to get to planting next weekend. We are going to plant a butt load of sunflowers on the south facing wall of the house. (A little trivia, a butt load is the official unit of measuring sunflowers, where one butt load = 20 plants.) Hopefully they will enjoy the brutal summer sun (the same sun that turned many a tomato plant into dust) and grow strong.
