The most accurate clock

Stop me if you heard this. Physicists have just built a quantum-logic clock based on a single aluminum ion. It keeps time with an astonishing accuracy, only losing 1 second every 3.7 billion years. It is a contender to replace the current international standard, the cesium fountain clock. Isn't science fascinating? This would increase the accuracy of GPS and allow for some really fascinating scientific experiments (for example, measuring time dilation).

Having an accurate clock allows our human civilization to function as it does. Everyone is on the same schedule, and we know for example what the time in Sydney, Australia is even though it is on the other side of the world.

So why am I so fixated on clocks and time right now? Well, we have figured out our lives are now governed by a new and very demanding time clock, pictured schematically below.



This is especially true now that all the fake clocks around us say that it is now an hour later than our "clock" thinks it is. He apparently does not follow daylight savings time. He still goes to bed when he thinks he should go to bed, and this clock really doesn't care about what those other "clocks" say.
