The Kitchen Apocalpyse is at Hand

Ever since we moved into our house back in 2005, we have talked of remodeling the kitchen. It is a typical 50's house, with a kitchen very separated from the rest of the house. It has the original cabinets (with 3 coats of paint on them starting with 50's sea foam green, followed by white, then the current red). As a bonus, it has the original 1952 Frigidaire stove with 2 ovens and a built in deep fat fryer! It has worked fantastically for the last few years, but very recently blew a thermostat in one of the ovens, which they haven't made since 1968. Also, the only dishwasher was a small 1/2 size dishwasher that sounded like a jet engine when running- which we hated. So we were very interested in a remodel. (Below right is the last load we ran in the dish washer - huzzah!)

This weekend was the last weekend with the kitchen! We are starting the complete redo of the kitchen and portions of the dining room and living room. We are expanding the square footage of the house by a little bit, enclosing the non functioning front porch. The kitchen will then be opened up to the rest of the house, making it slightly bigger than before.

So we spent most of Saturday and all of Sunday packing everything up for its 2 month internment in the garage. It feels good to get this started, as we have a very firm deadline in December! Below left is the final voyage of the S.S. Frigidaire as Ali prepares Sunday morning breakfast. Fair well old girl, you have served us well.
