State Championships

That's right folks, rugby season is almost over (for now). This weekend is the boys high school state championships in Santa Fe. Since we had to be in Santa Fe anyway, we are taking this opportunity to catch up with a friend from grad school and his wife who live in Santa Fe now and to show Amy around (lived here 3 years and never been to Santa Fe - shocking!).

We started with breakfast at the Tecolote (or Owl en Espanol) Cafe,
one of our favorite stops and soon to be featured on the travel channel. A very windy playoff day sees David's team advancing to the final tomorrow. After rugby, we headed of to the Tesuque Pueblo for a walk through the weekendly Flea Market. When I say flea market read International Bazaar with less used tires and more imported goods from around the globe. We met our friend and took a walking tour of historic Santa Fe, stopping half way for Margaritas and a late lunch, finishing with a tour through the gallery opening of Chuck Jones, an animator known for his work with Disney and Dr. Seuss. The gallery happened to be having a memorial for John Alvin, who happened to be known for his Star Wars movie posters - what a coincidence!

Check out these actions shots of Coach Scrymgeour in action (photos courtesy of yours truly).

Also thought I'd throw in this quick view of youth rugby in New Mexico. This is a coed U13 contact team. Watch out Europe, these guys will be ready for World Cup 2023.
