Harbingers of fall

School for Ali started 2 weeks ago, and already the days and nights are becoming cooler. The sun is setting earlier and earlier and going to any grocery store here in ABQ is now accompanied by the heavenly aroma roasting green chili. Fall is on it's way, but for the time being we are enjoying the late summer and all the yummy harvest that comes with it.

Tomadogeddon has started...

We have had several large harvests of tomatoes so far, either from the kindness of neighbors who don't like tomatoes, from our CSA share, or from our own garden which is just now starting to peak. We are eating most of them fresh - on cottage cheese for lunch or in salads, pasta, or guacamole.

Turning eggplant into baba ganoush

We have also been the recipients of a huge amount of yummy fresh peaches, which we ate some and froze some for a mid-winter fresh peach crisps. My parents brought Utah sweet corn down with them last weekend and we also froze 2 dozen of corn for our future meals - most likely we will thaw these for Thanksgiving.

A special treat of fresh cinnamon rolls and coffee

The mornings are also delightfully cool, which are great for getting outside and doing some yard work on our long neglected yard. The summer rains and a summer of biking allowed an overpopulation of weeds. So I spent several mornings weeding and moving piles of gravel around to cover yard fabric in the side yard (an unfinished project from May). Felt good to get stuff done!
