The Rainy Season

Summer is in full swing here.  We have already have a few days of hot weather (~90 deg) and even a few days of rain and sprinkles.  We only had 0.36" of rain in May, but even this meager value is enough to make all the desert flowers bloom.  All of our hard work we have poured into the yard over the past few years is finally paying off.  After 3 years, most of our plants are finally doing really well/going crazy.

We planted bamboo as a living fence, which we stuck in the ground as just tiny little plants 3 years ago.  Now, it is taking off and is about 8' tall, hopefully soon it will provide some more cover.  Our red sage is doing well too.

We also have been doing some work in the back yard now, which needs some serious attention (50 years of overgrowth which needs rework).  We moved our garden into raised planters away from the house and the worst of the sun and toward more hospitable surroundings.  We planted tomatoes, squash, egg plants, and peppers.  We are also starting to reclaim the side yard, which was in some serious disarray.  As a good friend told us, owning a house is not about finishing projects, but about working on the house as a lifestyle!
