By my counting this is the 7th Balloon Fiesta the Scrymgeour's have attended, only missing one year for medical related issues. The joy of the fiesta is only getting better every year as Connor is more excited about things. His first year (10 months), he just enjoyed looking at people. Year two brought an interest in the balloons. Year three brought absolute head exploding excitement about the balloons!
Like last year we attended our personal favorite, the Mass Ascension, a chaos of balloons launching from a giant field all around and within crowds of observers. We drove part of the way to the park than cycled the rest of the way there towing Connor in his chariot. We left the house by 6:15 and were in the park 30 minutes later. We could tell we were in for it, when Connor went bonkers on the dark ride into the park when he spotted the dawn patrol balloons (testing for wind and very bright against the predawn darkness) up in the sky.
We met Granny and Oupa there who had taken the park and ride into the fiesta. It was the last day of the fiesta, and we were just happy that balloon went up! Connor was supper interested in everything from the launching to the colors, the balloons, the overall excitement of the launching and the crowds. He spend most of the time staring in slack jawed awe and pointed excitedly. His favorite balloon this year was "Airabelle" the giant cow (discussed in an earlier post here) and Humpty Dumpty. The cow didn't make it off the ground, but I don't think he was too upset with all the other things going on.
As the last few balloons were lifting off, we headed out of the park along the diversion channel and met up with my parents for a nice breakfast at the Range Cafe. A great event. We hope next year to finally make it out to a Balloon Glow, the one event we have not yet attended.
