Snow Envy

Both Ali and I still love the winters here in New Mexico. For the most part it is cold overnight (mid to low 20's) and warms to the mid 40's-50's during the day that feels much warmer due to the clear bight blue skys and sunny days. Our first winter here was like a revelation. No longer did we feel like we just had to survive the winter - the cold, the unrelenting monochrome gray, the cabin fever, and the lack of sun. Here were still able to go outside and be active, and if we really desired it, could always head north and up in elevation to get the snow and cold we felt we were missing.

However, at least once a winter we always have a hankering for a good old fashioned snow storm. You know, the kind that paralyzes the city under inches of snow forcing you to snuggle down for a day or two with a good movie or puzzle. Such a snow storm did happen here 3 years ago, where we got about 18 inches of snow over a week of snow fall (pictured below).

Right now all our friends and family on the east coast are getting a pummeled by record snowfall. Those storms started their cross country voyage drifting through NM, but we didn't get anything substantial. These same storms that teased us have just shut down the Philadelphia airport, delaying by a few days Ali's sister on her way out to visit Ali and I Connor. But even so, we are a little envious of the snow. But don't get me wrong, just a little. I wouldn't trade the sunshine for anything.
