We finally got Connor dedicated (or baptized if that is a more familiar term). We have been very sporadically attending the Unitarian Universalists Church here since moving here. We both like the very liberal community and the openness of the church. Not a dogmatic church but more a refuge for people seeking a spiritual and socially conscious community. Since Ali's parents were in town we decided the time was right. It was a nice family weekend as my mom came back down (unfortunately, Oupa was out of the country).

It was a very nice and touching service. It started off by recognizing the importance of parents in guiding or little pumpkin through life, but touched on that there will be more people in Connor's life aside from family too. It takes a village, as they say, so this was a his dedication to the broader community of people that will be a part of his life. It was a nice service which put into words all that Ali and I feel about a community (very important).
Both ministers said after the service, that they had never had a baby that got so many laughs! Connor was in rare form, eager to be passed between the ministers and parents with precise comic timing which brought laughs from everyone, which of course, encouraged him more. Then while the congregation sang, we carried Connor up and down the aisles, where he hammed it up and waved and clapped. No shrinking violet, this kid!
